6) How to Choose the Best Affiliate Programs to Promote - 3 Rules

By Dean Kendall

Not every product with an affiliate program is sure to be profitable, even if you follow everything your latest e-book says to a tee. Many people set out by trying to find a profitable market or niche, then try and find an affiliate program to match but in fact the best way is to choose your affiliate program first.

Clickbank is a very good place to start. You may already know that Clickbank has a huge marketplace full of 'info products' for immediate digital download by your referred customers. It's free to join up and promote Clickbank vendor products. Clickbank make it very easy to promote any product in their marketplace - just follow the prompts.

The big plus with digital information through Clickbank is that the product is delivered to the customer instantly - your commission is visible in your Clickbank affiliate account within minutes. And I have never had a problem being paid by Clickbank for my sales referrals as an affiliate.

3 rules to distinguishing profitable affiliate programs to promote from those that will be a dead waste of your time.

1. Make sure you can earn a minimum of 60% commission on every sale.

I've found it is not worth the effort to promote products that offer less than 60% commission. Most products in the Clickbank marketplace range between $27 and $77 so by sticking to the 'no less than 60% affiliate commission rule' you are sure to be earning a minimum of around $20 for every sale you refer.

You will find there are stacks of products in the Clickbank marketplace that offer 60% commissions, some even offer as much as 75%, others offer recurring commissions for membership or subscription type sites.

2. Check the Gravity Rating in Clickbank

The Clickbank gravity rating is based around the number of affiliates that have referred sales to a particular product during the week. The higher the gravity, the more affiliates are promoting the product and making sales.

What this means for us is: the product is already selling well and is in high demand - so, if it's profitable for other affiliates, it can be profitable for us.

3. Study the Sales Page

Now having said to focus on the higher gravity products does not always mean the lower gravity products won't be profitable, it may mean the product is just new to the marketplace, or no one has given it a shot yet.

However, if the product indicates a low gravity score, you will need to assess whether or not the sales page will convert your visitors into buyers. I've found the best way to judge whether or not a sales page will convert well or not is to read the entire sales pitch.

Put yourself in the frame of mind of someone who desperately needs the solution that the sales page offers, then ask these questions...

• Does the pitch answer all your questions? • Does it satisfy all possible objections (you could start by making a list of concerns before you even read the page). • Does the letter ask for the sale? (You'll be surprised how many sales letters make it difficult to order). You need to make sure it is really easy for the potential customer to buy the product.
